What this task is

A process shown as boxes and arrows, such as an application procedure or an experiment. Some stages have gaps to complete.

The recording says the sequence out loud: "first", "once that's done", "the next stage", "after that", "finally". The chart tells you how many stages to expect, and these words tell you where you are.

The traps

The common mistakes in this question type. Learn to spot each one before test day.

Stages mentioned early

A speaker sometimes names a later stage early: "we'll come to testing in a moment". The signal words tell you which box you are in, not the first time a stage is mentioned.

Losing your place costs the rest of the chart

Every stage depends on the last. If you fall one box behind, later answers can be wrong too.

What to do next time

Number the stages in the preview and say the sequence to yourself. You are about to hear it in exactly that order.
Listen for sequence words. "Once that's done" means one stage has finished and the next stage starts.
The gap is usually a noun or verb phrase naming what happens at that stage. Predict it from the boxes before and after.
