What happens on test day

You may know the English and still feel unsure about the day. Here is what to bring, what happens at the test centre, and which rules matter.

Bring this, leave the rest outside

Bring in

The exact ID you booked with (passport or national ID card).
Water in a clear bottle with the label removed.

Leave outside

Phone, smartwatch, and any other device.
Bag, notes, and food.

The ID must be the same one you booked with, and it must be valid. A different or expired document means you cannot sit the test, and you lose the fee. Staff check your ID, take your photo, and scan your fingerprint. That photo appears on your Test Report Form.

The written part is about 2 hours 40 minutes. Speaking is separate.

You cannot leave during Listening, the instruction periods, or the last 10 minutes of a section. You can ask to use the bathroom at other times, but the clock keeps running and you lose that time.

On the computer test

You type your answers and the system saves them. The timer turns red at 10 minutes and 5 minutes left. When the clock reaches zero, the test submits and you cannot type more.

When you take Speaking

Same day, or up to 7 days before or after. Your centre sets the time.

Arrive at least 20 minutes early. Staff check your ID and fingerprint again. Bring only your ID; the examiner gives you the pencil and paper for Part 2. The session is recorded, so your test can be checked later if you ask for a remark.
