What this task is

The passage's information reorganised into a structure. Study-style notes, a comparison table, or a flow-chart of a process, with gaps to fill from the text.

The layout matches how the passage organises the information, so it works as a map. A table means the passage compares things. A flow-chart means it describes a sequence, marked by words like "first", "next", and "the final stage".

The traps

Table order

Table answers follow the passage's order when the grid is read left to right, top to bottom. Fill the cells in that order to keep your place in the passage.

One word means one word

When the rubric says ONE WORD ONLY, it means it. Two words score nothing, even when the pair is correct.

What to do next time

Read the layout before the text. Headers and stage labels tell you what each gap needs and where to find it.
The words around the gap say the same idea as the words around the answer in the passage, in a different way. Scan for the idea, then copy the word.
Read your completed row or stage back. If it misstates the passage, you copied from the wrong place.
