Two tasks in 60 minutes
Write a factual report of at least 150 words and an essay of at least 250 words in one hour. Task 2 counts twice as much, so give it more time.
The two writing tasks
| Task | Recommended time | What it is | What makes it hard |

| 1 (Academic) | 20 minutes | A factual description of visual information: a line graph, bar chart, pie chart, table, map, or process diagram. At least 150 words. | Choose the main features. Listing every number takes time and misses the overall trend. |
| 2 (Essay) | 40 minutes | A formal essay responding to an argument, problem, or point of view. At least 250 words. | Answer the exact question. State your position and develop it in clear paragraphs. |
Marking reminder: Both tasks are graded on four criteria: Task Achievement (or Response), Coherence & Cohesion, Lexical Resource, and Grammatical Range & Accuracy. Each is worth 25% of your band score for that task.
